President Recep Tayyip Erdogan cast his vote at the Saffet Cebi Middle School in the Uskudar district of Istanbul on Sunday in Turkey’s first-ever presidential election run-off.
In the capital Ankara, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, leader of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) and joint candidate for the six-party opposition Nation Alliance, cast his ballot at a polling station.
More than 64.1 million people are expected to vote in the run-off, including over 1.92 million overseas voters who have already cast their ballot.
Millions of voters went to the polls on May 14 to elect the country's president and members of its 600-seat parliament. Despite Erdogan’s People’s Alliance winning a majority against the opposition's six-party Nation Alliance in parliament, no presidential candidate managed to secure the required 50% in the first round.
