I finally got to the part of the build I was really looking forward to, building out my kitchen cabinet! I’m building the cabinet on the sliding door side of the van, so I can open the doors when I'm cooking or simply move the gas stove outside and avoid any smells getting into the van. The kithcen cabinet has a build in sink that i can use as additional counter space when covered and a pull out kitchen faucet that I can use as a shower faucet as well. On the front side of the cabinet next to the doorstep I made storage for shoes.
The depth of the cabinet will be about 45cm and 91cm tall with wooden counter. I applied multiple layers of Oil and wax mixture to the wooden counter to protect it from water and dirt while still maintaining the natural wood look. I used 12mm poplar plywood for all of my cabinet walls and drawers, and glued together 12mm and 6mm poplar plywood for drawer fronts and cabinet doors (so I was able to instal hinges), and 15mm poplar plywood for stringers.

I have a lot of respect for people who make cabinets, it requires a lot of patience and precision. I’m really stoked with how my cabinet is turning out given the tools I have available and with my limited knowledge.

I feel like I may have solved one of the issues that a lot of people struggle with; how to keep the drawers shut/locked when driving the van. Most people end up using the plastic RV clips or brass latches. With these push to open drawer slides, I think I may be able to get away from using those, at least for my drawers.

I am Sandra. In January 2022 I purchased a 2018 Sprinter Van, Sherpa. I am using my stubbornness and drive to show individuals that they, too, can convert a camper van by themselves and on a budget, with a lot of learning, rolling up the sleeves, and getting to work. With this van build I want to create an adventure vehicle that's going to store all my surfboards, mountain bikes and skis and have some space for my friends to tag along as well in order to pursue the waves, fresh snow and good bike trails.

My want to inspire individuals to pursue their passion and to not be afraid to live a life differently.
