Mercedes will offer an EV in every segment by 2025, before moving its entire range to fully electric by the end of the decade. In time, all of its EVs will be built on purpose made electric car platforms, and the first car to go onto a dedicated electric architecture is this: the EQS.
It’s an electric S-Class limo in all but name, and it has the biggest battery ever fitted to a production car, which allows it to achieve the longest range figure of any EV you can buy today. It's also packed with the bleeding edge of what Mercedes can offer in terms of tech, including the vast 55-inch Hyperscreen and level 3 self driving capability. In effect, then, the EQS is the S-Class of the future, but is it too advanced for its own good? Nicola Hume finds out in this review.
