STORYLINE:
As Palestinian and Israeli leaders prepared to embark on a new, United States-backed peace plan, violence continued in the West Bank and the Gaza strip.
Early on Thursday, one Palestinian was killed in the Khan Younis refugee camp, during a wide scale operation by the Israeli army in the Gaza strip.
Witnesses said Mohammed Jawad Al Qatreh, 24, wanted by Israel, was killed by Israeli fire during an attempt to
arrest him near his house.
The Israeli army said it had arrested 29 Palestinians during the raid.
Also in the Gaza Strip some seven Palestinian houses were destroyed by Israeli military bulldozers.
The meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas set for Thursday after a brief delay, was turning into a preparatory session for a summit with United States' President George Bush.
Abbas would ask the Israeli leader for a declaration explicitly accepting the Palestinian right to a state, Palestinian officials said on Wednesday.
The White House announced on Wednesday that the three leaders would meet next week in the Jordanian Red Sea
resort of Aqaba.
