STORYLINE
Negotiators met in Moscow on Tuesday to discuss new initiatives to resolve the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict.
The Joint Control Committee on conflict resolution is responsible for monitoring and implementing the 1992 Georgian-South Ossetian ceasefire.
The JCC comprises of representatives from Georgia, Russia, South Ossetia and Russia's republic of North Ossetia.
The province of South Ossetia seeks greater independence from Georgia.
The armed conflict regained strength when Mikhail Saakashvili replaced Eduard Shevardnadze as Georgian president and expressed a renewed interest in reintegrating the country's separatist regions.
