Today's hiking tip takes us to the top of the highest of Europe's "Grasberge" mountains to an elevation of 2,467 metres - the Gamskarkogel. From the Grüner Baum car park, we begin with a steep hike up to the Poserhöhe, then continue first through forest, later through fields of mountain pine, through a series of switchbacks up to Tofererscharte gap, followed by a steep climb to the summit, once also tackled by Empress Elisabeth of Austria herself in order to pluck an edelweiss or two. You might well catch sight of the occasional buzzard, golden eagle and even a paraglider.
