President Barack Obama is planning to block the sale of new offshore drilling rights in US Arctic waters. The oil production in the Arctic and parts of the Atlantic might be restricted indefinitely. Despite being a victory for environmentalists, industry representatives say the decision is politically motivated and could have detrimental effects on local communities. However the proposed ruling could be overturned by President-elect Donald Trump, in a process that's likely to take months or even years.
