World Champion Lewis Hamilton made a good start to the new season and set the fastest time in the first practice session of the new Formula 1 season. Second place went to team mate Valtteri Bottas.

Sebastian Vettel was slower than Hamilton in Melbourne and finished fifth. In the Ferrari's first free practice session on Friday, the challenger was almost one second slower than the Briton, in the second the gap to the defending champion was also more than half a second. Nevertheless, Sebastian Vettel has still a great chance of winning the Formula One Australian GP with his Scuderia Ferrari.

Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton and Daniel Ricciardo: These three Formula 1 drivers had to compete at the first press conference of the 2018 season. The focus was on the title counterparties of the past year: Vettel vs. Hamilton.

In 2018, there was a big change in the regulations of F1. Reducing the number of power units per driver per season from four units to three units per season.
