I just bought a car that's new to me. It's a Passat Estate 2.0TDi B8 2015 and I'm doing a Fuel filter, Air filter, and Cabin filter change because I can't guarantee when they were last done. There was some service history with the car, but I wanted to do the basics just so that I feel comfortable I have a baseline to work to.
The car is quite high mileage, but it's had an inspection and the report says that it's in reasonably sound condition. I actually factored in a new engine withing the cost of the car and it was still a pretty good price if I have to do that, I just don't want to need to do it in the next couple of years. I had an oil report done too. That came back saying it needed an oil change ASAP. So I'll be doing that oil change over the next few days and then have another survey done each oil change - it's only about 30GBP for testing, so why not!
The cambelt needs doing ASAP, just so I know it’s been done rather than through necessity, in theory it should be still well within miles and tolerance. When I do that, I’ll also replace the water pump, guide rollers, cambelt tensioner and auxiliary drive belt. It’s a £200+ kit, but it’ll give me peace of mind that all that stuff is done.
I've done this video in a single take, so you can see that these things have been done on a specific date, and also that it's not such a huge pain to do them.
If you just want to see one of these items being replaced, just skip to the relevant chapter:
00:00 Intro: About the car, current mileage, video purpose.
01:38 Replacing the fuel filter
11:30 Replacing the air filter
17:16 Replacing the cabin pollen filter
Thanks for watching, I’ll post more Passat fixing over time.
