STORY: ROME FASHION
LOCATION: ROME
DATE: JANUARY 21 2000
Four days of high fashion in Rome started on Friday on a much lesser note compared to the high fashion shows in Paris. No top models with amazing caches, no top high fashion designers who, as usual, keep away from the provincial Rome scene.
The "Spring-Summer 2000" shows opened at Rome's "Grand Hotel" with Italian designer Raffaella Curiel, a longstanding name in the Rome high fashion scene, who presented her collection to a quiet audience mainly consisting of the Roman bourgeoisie.
Almost 40 years have passed since Raffaella, the third member of the Curiel family to appear on the fashion stage, presented her first collection.
A long experienced designer, for this collection Raffaella Curiel was inspired by the wind of the millennium and her personal wish and philosophy to "reunite the world".
That's why she prepared twenty different outfits, inspired by several different cultures all over the world. This show, she said, while holding her white fluffy dog in her arms, was to be considered a homage to the
world.
The show can be considered successful; many of the designs drew the applause of the audience, and Raffaella Curiel herself was enthusiastically applauded when she stepped onto the stage at the end of the 45 minute show.
