The FBI has identified the suspect who intentionally drove a pickup truck into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street early New Year's Day.
According to the FBI, a man, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar, drove a pickup truck into the crowd around 3:15 a.m. At least 15 people were killed and more than 35 were injured.
After going through the crowd, the suspect crashed his vehicle and shot two responding officers. The officers fired back and struck the suspect. He was declared dead at the scene.
Jabbar was carrying an ISIS flag in the truck, according to the FBI. In a Wednesday afternoon news conference, FBI officials said Jabbar was a U.S.-born citizen from Texas. He was also an Army veteran. The FBI also said that it did not believe Jabbar acted alone.
