What is TN e-Pass? Why it is introduced?
The TN e-pass system has been introduced on the recommendation of the Tamil Nadu High Court to bring about crowd control and management in high-profile tourism spots in the state. You know, this is the summer season, and we have school holidays all over India, so people from nearby states, like Karnataka, are keen on visiting popular destinations, especially from the city of Bangalore, coming in huge groups to Ooty and Kodaikanal, leading to chaos and traffic blocks in the hill stations. It has become nearly impossible for traffic management in Nilgiri, and that's the ultimate reason for the introduction of the Tamil Nadu e-pass. I would say this is beneficial for the travellers as well as the district administration to plan resources so as to benefit all parties.
How to apply online for Tamil Nadu e-pass? Which is the application website?
The official website for getting an e-pass for Kodaikanal and Ooty in Nilgiris is epass.tnega.org.
Here is the direct link to the portal: [ Ссылка ]
In order to apply for your TN e-pass, you have to visit the above link. Now you have to select from where you are coming. If you are coming from outside India as a solo explorer, you have to give your information like email, address, etc. and get a pass through this link. If you have a local guide in India, he or she can also do this for you if you share your details with them. I will now explain the procedures for travellers coming from other States of India. Now, to take TN e-pass as an Indian, you have to click on this banner, which reads within India. Then you have to sign in using your mobile number through OTP confirmation. Sometimes after entering the OTP, you may get an error message. In that case, just refresh the captcha over here and sign in. Once you're logged in to TN e-pass dashboard, you can see four different options. If you are visiting multiple places in Nilgiris district, like Ooty, Masinagudi, Kunoor, and, so on you will choose the first one. For Kodaikanal only, you can choose the second one. The third option is for local travellers and people living in Nilgiris district but who don’t have a TN-43 registration board. They can either approach the RTO to get a pass or get it generated here. And the fourth tab is where you check the status of your TN e-pass and download the previously applied passes in PDF format.
What all details one needs to submit to get a TN e-pass?
Travellers have to submit your Name, address, vehicle details like make, fuel type, registration number, then the number of people traveling with you, dates of travel, and details of your accommodation if you have already booked one. After filling all these details you just click on the submit button to generate a pass instantly.
How to download epass and check status of existing applications
All the approved passes will be available in the "previous passes" section of TN e-pass website dashboard. There you can see all your applications in rows, details like status, dates on which you can use the pass for travel, along with a download button on the extreme right corner allowing you to download the pass that comes with QR code, and your details exactly as provided in the application. You can then save it as a PDF file on your phone or better take a print to be on the safer side.
Who are eligible for e-pass? Are there any restrictions to enter Kodaikanal and Ooty?
People living in the Nilgiris district need not bring any e-pass if they are traveling in a TN-43 registered vehicle. But all others should get your pass, and it will be verified against your ID card at checking points. Right now there aren’t any restrictions to travel to Ooty or Kodaikanal, but based on the data they collect this time, they might bring some changes in the future like limiting the number of people who can enter at a time, parking private vehicles, and yellow board cabs away from the hills.
