Siu Wun Cheung of LLNL presented "Reduced Order Modeling for Finite Element Simulations Through the Partnership of MFEM and libROM." MFEM provides a wide variety of mesh types and high-order finite element discretizations. However, subject to the model complexity and fine resolution of the discretization, the computational cost can be high, requiring a long time to complete a single forward simulation. In this talk, we will introduce various reduced order modeling techniques, which aim to lower the computational complexity and maintain good accuracy, including intrusive projection-based model reduction and non-intrusive approaches. We will demonstrate the use of reduced order modeling techniques in libROM (www.librom.net), which can be applied to various MFEM examples, including the Poisson problem, linear elasticity, linear advection, mixed nonlinear diffusion, nonlinear elasticity, nonlinear heat conduction, Euler equation, and optimal control problems.
