There’s been a significant increase in the number of covid-19 infections around the country, despite no new variant.
Rather professor Salim Abdool Karim says that this wave is being driven by a sub-variant of the omicron variant.
But there is still no increase in the number of excess deaths or in the number of people who need to be admitted to ICU.
