In this video I demonstrate how to cook ovenbaked treacle sponge pudding. I also demonstrate how to make custard using Bird's Custard Powder in the microwave, and show you how to make a simple chilled custard dessert using leftover custard.
This classic British dessert is still very popular here in the UK and has been as long as anyone can remember. Treacle sponge pudding is best served warm with warm custard.
Ingredients:
130g plain/all purpose flour.
70g sugar.
2 tsp baking powder.
2 eggs.
100g melted butter.
1 tbsp plus 200g golden syrup*.
*Please note that corn syrup is a very poor substitute for golden syrup, so I can't recommend it for this recipe.
