2013 International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend - Manly Warringah Radio Society
The International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend aims to raise public awareness of the ongoing importance of lighthouses and lightships in the modern world.
In August each year, Amateur Radio operators (or radio hams) establish shortwave radio stations in lighthouses and on lightships all over the world. Their aim: to make radio contact with as many other lighthouses and lightships as possible.
The Manly-Warringah Radio Society "activates" the beautiful Barrenjoey Lighthouse at Palm Beach in northern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
The Society gratefully acknowledges the assistance of the NSW Parks and Wildlife Service, who allow us to operate from the Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage adjacent to the lighthouse.
