Explore advanced practice provider careers at Community Health Network: [ Ссылка ]. Clinical nurse specialists (CNS) are advanced practice registered nurses who have completed a master’s or doctoral degree in a specific specialty. They obtain certification by exam through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and then re-certify by meeting specific criteria every five years. To maintain their certification, a CNS must renew certification every five years, have completed 1,000 clinical hours in the past five years, and complete 150 continuing education hours.
CNSs strive to improve current healthcare policies and/or procedures based on evidence-based research. They work in a variety of healthcare settings and specialties. In a hospital setting, CNSs educate and support staff to provide optimal patient care through the use of evidence-based research. They also help to maintain a culture of safety in the healthcare system. Their specialties vary from specific patient populations (adult/pediatrics) to a specific medical disease/condition (diabetes/infectious disease).
