Today we take a look at brief compatibility testing, history, and comparison with the Romanian copy of the East German Wieger 556x45 / 223 magazine.
It definitely did not fit my Beryl and is way too wide to be modified to fit imo. The ZPAPs were more of a mixed result. My M85 fit it better and did feed but was still hard to remove. It would fit but then get rather stuck in my M90 so I didn't bother shooting testing. It seems it's on the edge of tolerances so I wouldn't recommend these mags for a ZPAP. Plus they're more expensive than factory Serbian mags.
Now the story of where these came from is interesting: East Germany made these to accompany their STG940 rifles which they intended for export in the late 1980s. However the German unification brought about the swift end to that program after only a few years and very few rifles were actually made with many being destroyed. However the mags were sold off as surplus and are still floating around on the secondary market.
The Romanians used it as inspiration when creating their own take on an AKM chambered in 5.56x45 and eventually produced their own mags. While very similar and used interchangeably my most folks w/ a compatible AK (SAR-3, WASR-3, Champion, etc) there are definitely small but noticeable differences such as the reinforcing line stamping in the body of the mag, the visibility of the welds, the overall machining quality, the drain hole size, etc.
