Hey welcome to BlueSun,
What you are looking at, is the most mysterious ancient site. The stonework found on this site, astounds the historians and archaeologists. Puma punku is a part of a Temple complex, it is located at Tiwanaku site, near Tiwanaku, Andes mountains, Bolivia. And it is a part of large archaeological site known as Tiahuanacu. Archeologist say that this site, was created around 536 - 600 AD. But some claim this site to be much older than that. The meaning behind the name Puma Punku, in Aymara language is, (gate, or door of puma). The creation of this site, is a mystery to many archeologist. It is believed that, this site was constructed by Tiwanaku empire. Puma Punku site is located at an altitude of 12800 feet. The most interesting thing, about Puma Punku, is the stonework. The red sandstone, and andesite stones were cut, in such a precise way, that it looks like they have used, some kind of highly advanced technology. Well, in modern days, for cutting this rock, it would require a high amount of machine energy. Each blocks weights approximately 140 tons to 800 tons. And it seems impossible, to construct this rocks using primitive technology. Even for lifting this blocks, it requires a lot of energy. The largest stone found at Puma Punku, are thought to be 7.81 meters long, 5.17 meters wide, and 1.07 meters thick. Generally it is believed that, the red sandstone blocks, were quarried from 10km away from Puma Punku. And the andesite blocks, were transported from 90km away, on the shore of Lake Titicaca. The transportation of these rocks, mainly the andesite blocks is a mystery. As this site is located, at an altitude of 12800ft., Normally the trees won't grow on that high altitudes. So it doesn't make any sense to say that, these stone blocks were transported using woods. Now when you look at the stoneworks, you'll see that the stones were cut precisely. There are no marks of chisels and hammers. It looks like they have cut the rocks using laser machines. You can see the straight line is been made with small drill holes. These all holes have same depth, and each holes are made at an equal distance. This indicates that, they had knowledge about mathematics, and engineering skills. This is the H shape blocks. This H shape blocks looks like a puzzle. And these blocks perfectly interlock with eachother. All these blocks are made at right angles. You can see the complicated shapes and cuts been made on the rocks. One of the notable feature at Puma Punku are, the I shaped architectural cramps. It is composed of, a unique copper arsenic nickel bronze alloy. These I shaped cramps, were used to hold the blocks together. When was Puma Punku constructed, is a controversial thing. Because, some historians and archaeologists says that, this site was built during 536-600 AD. An Austrian explorer named Arthur Posnansky, performed a study on Puma Punku in 1926, and he put forward the idea that, it's one of the oldest archeological site on the Earth, and it date back to 13,000 BC. According to the locals, Puma Punku is related with Gods. As the first creation happened in this site. Locals say that, the first inhabitants had supernatural powers, they can move stones using sounds. The Inca people believe that, their creator God Viracocha, first made humans on that site. It is said that, from this place, people of various ethnicities set out to populate the world.
This stone portraits, found at Tiwanaku, were believed to be the first humans that were created at this place. Did this stone blocks were created by humans, or some other beings? Some people believe in the theory about Aliens, helping the humans to build this structure. We are still not able to understand, why they created those stone blocks. What's the purpose behind creating those blocks. Or maybe this is an incomplete construction? The real purpose of this stone blocks will remain a mystery.
