The #French government is warning its citizens living or traveling in several Muslim-majority countries to take extra security precautions, as anger surges over cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad being displayed in France.
This issue has its roots in the knife attack outside a French school earlier in October in which a man of #Chechen origin beheaded Samuel Paty — a local teacher who'd shown students cartoons of Prophet Mohammad in a lesson on freedom of speech.
The caricatures are considered blasphemous by Muslims.
But since the beheading, the cartoons have been displayed in France in solidarity, angering some Muslims.
President Emmanuel Macron has also pledged to fight what he calls "#Islamist separatism," saying it was threatening to take over some Muslim communities in France.
