THE JEWISH SONGWRITERS
Paul is a jazz pianist / singer, and songwriter
He delivers a fusion of modern live looping techniques and Crooning, on the songs of the Jewish writers: Neil Diamond, Amy Winehouse, Sinatras Jewish writers, Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, Leonard Cohen, Danny Kaye, The Bee Gees, Gershwin and more, plus his own original songs.
Jewish songwriters have had a profound influence on music, particularly in the United States, shaping genres like jazz, rock, pop, Broadway and folk.
Artists like Bob Dylan used music as a medium for social commentary, influencing generations of folk and protest music.
A significant number of Frank Sinatra’s most iconic songs were written by Jewish songwriters, reflecting their profound impact on the Great American Songbook, with songs that became jazz standards.
Songwriters like George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, and Richard Rodgers also created timeless music for Broadway and Hollywood.
Jewish Rock and Pop songwriters such as Carole King, Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, and Burt Bacharach, shaped the sound of modern pop and rock with groundbreaking compositions.
Their contributions are not only a testament to their talent but also to the cultural richness of Jewish traditions and their adaptability in various artistic expressions.
During a casual phone call, Richard Lugar of BSBI Charleston and Paul stumbled on the idea of celebrating the decades of the Jewish songwriters in a concert. By the end of the call, the idea had taken on a life of its own.

MORE ABOUT PAUL
Paul is a baal teshuvah, the term “teshuvah” means “return,” reflecting an individual’s spiritual journey back to their Jewish roots.
Over nearly two decades, he has cultivated a connection to his heritage, and strengthens his knowledge by learning Gemorah*, dedicating an hour and a half to two hours every morning with his “chavrusah” (learning partner) Rav Eli Gestetner, grappling with its questions, unpacking its logic, and drawing connections to broader themes.
For Paul, this daily practice is both a spiritual discipline and an intellectual journey, grounding his day in the richness of Jewish learning.
With deep roots in storytelling and a cultural emphasis on questioning, it’s no coincidence that Paul, found himself drawn to the thinking and mindset of the Jewish songwriters. Their ability to blend profound emotion with wit, and universal themes speaks to a unique worldview shaped by a history of, struggle, and creativity. Crafting songs that were both intensely personal and universally resonant. This mindset—turning hardship into beauty, humor, or hope—fostered an art form that not only entertains but also connects people across diverse experiences. Their introspective yet outward-looking approach mirrors a way of thinking that feels familiar and meaningful, drawing Paul into another shared narrative that transcends generations.
