Hello guys, how are you doing? For today's video, we're testing a Ryzen 5 2500 U, its Vega 8 Graphics, and 16GB of dual-channel RAM in 28 games.
I changed the TDP for this system from stock 15W to 30W using the program Ryzen Controller. Ryzen Controller is a very simple program, compared to Ryzenadjust, to change the TDP of mobile Ryzen APUs. In the current patch status, it's working for AMD mobile APUs from the second up to the fourth generation. I can only recommend checking this program out.
At 40 seconds in this video, I'm showing you the program Ryzen Controller and at 51 seconds you can see, by taking a look at the top right corner, that I'm already running at 30W TDP, socket 0 STAPM limit. I've kept 30W TDP during this whole benchmark recording.
The device that I've been using for this video is an HP 15 db0103ng laptop. It's an average-built quality 15-inch laptop with a pretty nice cooling. I only ran into some occasional thermal throttling. However, the performance stayed way better all the time than it would've been at 15W TDP. We should also mention that I've been using the Adrenalin 21.4.1 AMD driver.
I think I've told enough about this system. Let's talk about the performance.
To put it briefly it's a solid performance in all games. To be honest I'd use this system in my private use for playing all tested games except Call of Duty Warzone and Forza Horizon 4. Warzone has been IMHO nearly unplayable. I wrote barely playable into the benchmark clip but averaging 23 FPS in a Shooter is just pure pain to play.
Forza Horizon 4 is also a game that I wouldn't play on this system because I'd say stable 30FPS are necessary for a decent gaming experience. But all other titles that I've tested, to my surprise, really ran fine.
So in conclusion, I can still recommend buying and using a Ryzen 5 2500U in 2021 if you're willing to tweak it to 25W or 30W TDP.
That's the end of my voiceover. As always have a good day, stay safe and I hope to see you all in the next one. Goodbye.
