Paul Aravich, PhD is a behavioral neuroscientist and professor of Pathology and Anatomy, Geriatrics, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk, Virginia.

He is the recipient of an Alpha Omega Alpha Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award from the national AOA Medical Honor Society and the Association of American Medical Colleges and is the recipient of a Virginia State Council of Higher Education Outstanding Faculty Award, which is the highest honor for faculty in Virginia for teaching, research and service.

Dr. Aravich is the former chair of the Virginia Brain Injury Council; the Virginia Brain Injury Council’s Neurobehavioral Committee, which wrote a statewide position paper on the unmet behavioral treatment needs of people with brain injuries; and the Virginia Public Guardian and Conservator Advisory Board. He is on the advisory committee of the Virginia Center on Aging, a member of Virginia Geriatric Mental Health Partnership, and a Society for Neuroscience Representative to the American Brain Coalition. He sits on the boards of Alternatives, a nationally recognized youth empowerment organization; the I Need a Lighthouse Foundation for youth depression and suicide awareness; and the Buckley Foundation for brain injured survivors. He is also a former member of the Committee on Neuroscience Literacy of the Society for Neuroscience.

He has published widely and has given numerous statewide, national and international presentations. He is especially interested in the promotion of successful aging in persons with brain injuries, positive behavioral controls for challenging behaviors and caregiver stress. Last, he performs public policy advocacy for brain injury, mental illness and Alzheimer’s disease at the local, state, and national levels.
