In this video, we headed to Progreso Beach that is 30 minutes away from Merida.

We took the bus. It was about a 40 minute bus ride, air conditioned, and super cheap. The bus drops off right by the beach so it is only a short walk.

I didn't expect to like the beach, but ended up loving it. This makes for a great day trip if you are in Merida.
