For more than 1,100 years, we have been making history, providing a unique historical journal through Britain’s coins. Today, the commemorative coins we produce celebrate excellence and honour those that have made a notable contribution to Britain and beyond. The Royal Mint’s Annual Sets give you an opportunity to own some of the year’s key commemorative coins, brought together in one impressive presentation. Each carefully selected commemorative coin features the work of a skilled artist and tells a monumental story in miniature on the tiny surface of a coin.
The 2022 Annual Sets continue this numismatic celebration of British history with five specially selected commemorative coins united in a single collection. From Dame Vera Lynn and Alexander Graham Bell to the return of the Commonwealth Games to the British Isles, the 2022 Annual Sets pay tribute to the iconic individuals of yesteryear and the unforgettable events making history today. The 2022 Annual Sets also include two new designs dedicated to Her Majesty The Queen’s historic Platinum Jubilee, presented on a UK £5 coin and a UK 50p coin, which is our first UK 50p issued for a royal event.
In keeping with the other coins in this collection, the Platinum Jubilee coins presented in the Annual Sets will notably feature Jody Clark’s definitive coinage portrait of The Queen, which does not appear on the individual releases in our Platinum Jubilee collection. The sets are available featuring coins struck in their circulating alloys, finished to either Proof or Brilliant Uncirculated standard, as well as editions struck in precious metals. Special Platinum Jubilee editions of the 2022 Annual Sets, including the Platinum Jubilee coins presented alongside the definitive coins of 2022, will also be available soon. The Platinum Jubilee UK 50p coin featuring Jody Clark’s portrait of The Queen and the reverse design by Osborne Ross will also be available as part of the Strike Your Own Coin offering at The Royal Mint Experience from 5 January 2022.
