On February 3rd, the traveling exhibition Czech Crown Jewels within reach will arrive at Silesian Castle. Master replicas of the Czech crown jewels, which are a national cultural monument and probably the most valuable and best-known Czech treasure, will be exhibited.
Every resident of the Czech Republic learns about the Czech Crown Jewels, and it is said that every true Czech should see them at least once in their lifetime. However, the original exhibits are exhibited only once every 5 years and the exhibits can only be seen for a short time.
That is why the unique traveling exhibition "Czech Crown Jewels within reach" was created, which will allow visitors to get to know this unique treasure in detail without any disturbance and to view their masterful replicas.
The author of the excellent replicas is one of the best Czech and European goldsmiths - Jiří Urban. For example, he realized jewelry for the English Queen Elizabeth II. Husband and wife Blanka and Matúš Cepki also took part in the production.
At the exhibition, visitors will also be introduced to the Fates of 22 rulers across five centuries in the form of information panels, images and exhibits illustrating the period of their reign as faithfully as possible. Among the most interesting are the display of the Order of the Golden Fleece and the Spear of Longinus, a copy of Maria Theresa's ceremonial dress or examples of Hussite weapons.
The white lady,
Silesian Castle also has its white lady
She was dressed in white, in her right hand she carried a gilded key and in her left a candlestick with a lighted candle.
She walked the halls and corridors and appeared only when a member of the castle owner's family was about to die.
In the 15th century, in the epoch of Hussite wars, the birth of Joan of Arch and Christopher Columbus, a daughter named Hermine was born to a smith Peter and his wife Mary during a stormy night of 7th April 1498 A.D. when lightning was striking trees and houses setting them in fire and the Ostravice river was overflowing its banks and spreading in width in the surrounding country.
Hermine had a childhood full of work, studying with parents who dedicated her only as much attention as it was usual and necessary at that time - she was certainly not spoiled like masters' and noblemen's children.
When she was 16 she fell head over heels in love with a wayfaring journeyman of the blacksmith's craft who came to visit the Slezská
Ostrava Castle, they say that from the Baltic region.
Before their love came to fulfillment, he let himself recruited with a pipe dream of big money as a mercenary in a battle from which he never came back.
Hermine mourned for her love and since then she drew and paid all her attention to help the others. She gained the knowledge of different ointments, herbs and diseases from an old herbalist which she then applied when taking care of castle serfs.
Unfortunately, it became fatal for her when she was trying to save a child flowing on a loosen door on the swollen Ostravice river. She get drowned in its waters but the child was later saved down the river by a ferryman.
The tragedy took place on the day of the first full moon of May and Hermine, in the guise of a White Lady, started to appear in the castle corridors. At the same time, her apparition always meant the death of a person related to the castle. After the reconstruction and restoration of the castle in the 21st century, she became a symbol of eternal love and the protector of those who are in love. In her memory, the first full moon of May started to be celebrated as the LOVERS DAY at the Slezská Ostrava Castle.
