Wipuhara Kapene has been identified as the man accused of the murder of Albert Enoka in Lower Hutt on December 10, 2024. Enoka, a member of the Tribesmen gang and former president of the Rebels Motorcycle Club's Christchurch chapter, was fatally shot on Seddon Street in Naenae. He was found critically injured at around 3:15 pm and died at the scene.
Kapene was arrested on Christmas Eve after police executed search warrants in Wairarapa. He was charged with murder and firearm possession, and his case has been transferred to the High Court in Wellington, where he will appear in January. Kapene had requested name suppression, but since his identity had been widely reported, no application for suppression was made.
Following his arrest, Kapene appeared in Wellington District Court via an audio-visual link, where he indicated his desire for name suppression, but the court declined the request. The case continues to develop, with Kapene facing serious charges related to the fatal shooting of Enoka.
