I've been heating our home with this wood burning furnace for 4 winters now. I believe I've gained enough experience to show you this effective tip on starting a fire in a wood furnace properly.
Heating with wood really warms up a home especially during those cold frigid days of winter. Our previous homes had natural gas heating so we didn't have experience heating a home with wood.
In our current home we also heat with oil and it's expensive. So we try to heat with firewood as often as possible. This home came with a wood furnace in the basement and a fireplace on the main level. So we were new to using a wood furnace inside the house but that didn't scare us off. We looked at it as a good thing, to heat the home thoroughly and cheaply.
It has worked out well and we have saved money on home heating. Sure it's a bit more work, but it's worth it and gives this retired guy something to do.
