Zirconia crowns is like merging the best of the two worlds. It's a material that is very strong and that gives very good esthetics.
The crowns, eh, basically is we ground the tooth 360 degrees and we covered that eh tooth with something that something is called a crown. So there are different type of materials that we can use. We can use a full gold crown, eh, that is the, like the first techniques that were developed, eh? Then we can use what is called porcelain fused to metal.
That is a metal framework with porcelain applied to it and at the moment that it was developed, it was the most esthetic result available. The advantage that they had is that they were strong and aesthetically they were okay. Then there was a new family of crowns. That is what we, what people know as full porcelain crowns.
The advantages of those crowns is that they are extremely esthetic. The disadvantage is that they are brittle. So, eh, we had two types of crowns at that time. We had crowns that were very strong but not so esthetic. And then we had crowns that were very esthetic, but not so hard.
