Disaffiliation from the United Methodist Church season ended at the close of 2023, with the exception of a few reasonable annual conferences that have allowed unwilling congregations to exit after the UMC's General Conference removed traditional sexual ethics from their Book of Discipline. Alabama-West Florida is not one of those reasonable annual conferences. Rather, they have entrapped dozens of congregations by holding the purse strings.
This segment deals with developments in Alabama-West Florida as a 44-member group of churches deals with legal defeat. The oldest church in Selma is now separately filing against the conference, following in the footsteps of Harvest Church of Dothan. We read through an article that gives some interesting history, and we talk through the current landscape in the confederation of the unwilling in the UMC.
