Thanksgiving is fast approaching and with it, a four-day break that students and teachers look forward to - students because they get time off, and teachers because they get time away from students.
In a Wall Street Journal report on teacher burnout, the number one cause of job-related stress in teachers is student behavior - not low pay or long hours – just dealing with the kids.
While you may think, " Well, students misbehaving is nothing new," there’s growing evidence that it’s worse than it was 20, 10, or even five years ago.
And teachers I spoke to, say there’s a specific reason why.
"I had never in all of my years teaching, encountered kids, who were such ugly human beings.” This teacher - let’s call her Mrs. Smith - has been teaching high school in Palm Beach County for decades. She agreed to share her experiences with us, as long as we protected her identity. “Get out of my face, being absolutely dismissed like I’m a little gnat on the carpet or something, and just absolute sheer disrespect.”
