This is the broken knob we need to replace. I like to use just a hand screwdriver because the screws in all the mechanisms are delicate in here, and you can easily over-tighten something and break it.
Alright, that's the last screw on the rose plate and now these two parts come off. And this latch mechanism comes right out as well. Make sure you consult the directions in case there's any specific things you need to do before installing this or while installing it.
When you're installing a new door handle you want to start with the latch. Reverse the order in which we took the older one off, and the latch is going to go in first. Now this door is closing this direction -- we want to make sure the angle part is facing towards where the door is going to hit the jam.
When you're installing the door handle, there's a metal connecting rod that needs to slide through the hole on the latch, and it's gonna fit into the back side of the other handle. Now also make sure when you're putting the two pieces together those two screw holes -- there's recesses in the handle where both of them need to line up so that you can connect the two handles together with the provided screws. With the provided screws, you want to pick out the two longest screws, and these two are going to connect the handles together through the pre-drilled holes that are provided in the handle. Make sure that when the screw is seeded, not to over-tighten it.
Turn the handle once everything is tightened, and make sure that the latch still works. You can put this handle back on by just sliding it over that button end, and it snaps right back on.
Let's check the latching on the catch that's existing on the door and make sure everything just checks out perfectly. If you end up locking yourself out, you can use this pin on the other side of the handle where there's this little hole, and it will actually unlock this door for you. Push it through that hole and just pop that lock right out.
