Mongo got buddy who just replace outlet in house with a nice fancy GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) but it not working, no power at outlet and no power downstream from outlet. Maybe this happen to you? Soo... Mongo show you more home wiring DIY diagnose and repair.
First need use tester and confirm what outlet doing.
Can buy tester at all sorts of places like Ace hardware, Home depot, Meijer etc.. range between 7buck to 30buck depending on how fancy you want it. This one just cheap and basic (mongo like basic stuff cause basic stuff always work)
Mongo tester is Southwire 40010S-A but they longer make this one. 40012S is the new model.
Also using a Fluke 87V this meter online about 500buck to 800buck depending on the kit and were you buy - it real good and very reliable.
GFCIs are picky with how they get wired up, there 2 parts.
LINE - Good way to think of this is... This is were the power feed line comes into the GCFI outlet from Breaker box.
LOAD - Good way to think of this is... This were the LOAD of the GFCI outlet is, like all the other outlets and switches or lights and things.
Little trick you only need 1 GFCI outlet per circuit, if places at the beginning of the circuit then it will protect everything downstream or on the LOAD of the GFCI.
Before removing the outlet from the wall be sure to shut power off at breaker BE SAFE ELECTRICITY IS DANGEROUSE. Once off we pull outlet out and confirm wiring. Turn power back on and use an appropriate meter the measure which side the incoming (FEED LINE) has voltage. We find out the wires just swapped around. Shut breaker back off before moving wires. After swapping wires reinstall the outlet and turn breaker back on to test. Most likely will have to RESET the GFCI.
This actually happens all the time to people, Mongo has had a couple buddies miss wire a GFCI.
