Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will not attend the BRICS summit in Russia due to a recent injury. The three-day summit in Kazan begins on Tuesday, where Lula was scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Instead, Brazil will be represented by Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira. The 78-year-old Lula sustained a head injury at home and was advised to avoid long-distance travel.
