On May 4th, 2022, Lisa Desjardins, correspondent for the PBS NewsHour, accepted the 2021 National Press Foundation Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for Distinguished Reporting of Congress. She was introduced by one of the award judges, Terence Samuel, NPR Managing Editor for News, and acting VP and Executive Editor.
Judges cited Desjardins' beat reporting as well as her extraordinary live coverage from inside the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
The National Press Foundation judges noted that Desjardins, who has covered Capitol Hill for the past 16 years, remained calm even as she reported on rioters shattering the doors of the building and streaming inside – and did not make herself part of the story.
