Proposition L: Qualified voter vs. registered voter
Have you heard? We're having a City Charter election on May 7, and we want YOU to be educated and engaged in this election. Our City's Communications team put these educational materials together for Victoria residents to better learn about the 14 proposed amendments to the City Charter.
Here is a closer look at Proposition L, which is just one of the 14 proposed amendments you will see on the ballot in May 7 City Charter Election! Early voting is open now from April 25th - May 3rd, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to make your voice heard!
How it appears on the ballot:
Amending Article VIII Initiative, Referendum and Recall of the Charter of the City of Victoria changing the term “qualified voter” to “registered voter”.
What it means:
Article VIII uses the term “qualified voter” to describe someone who is registered to vote. The term creates a possibility for confusion because it could be wrongly interpreted to mean someone who meets the requirements to be able to vote regardless of whether he or she is registered.
This amendment would change the term “qualified voter” to “registered voter” throughout Article VIII. This is only a change in VOCABULARY. It DOES NOT AFFECT the meaning of the law.
