The roll-out of 5G mobile networks could have a big impact on forecasters' ability to predict major weather events.
Satellites use particular radio frequency bands to monitor water vapour in the atmosphere - but bands near these frequencies may also be used by mobile networks in the near future.
The biggest concern regards the 26 GHz band, which is being put up for international sale as part of the 5G spectrum.
