In this edition of India’s World we will analyse What does 2021 has in store for India’s diplomacy. Despite the difficulties posed by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, India’s diplomacy stood strong. Even though India was not part of the problem, we were at the forefront when it came to finding solutions. India led the way on many fronts, right from providing the neighborhood with life-saving drugs to taking on China and from calling for UN reforms to asking the world to stand by it to fight terror. That of course was 2020, but what can we expect in 2021? There is no doubt that China will continue to pose a problem and we have to be wary of our northern neighbours. The Quad saw some progress and may continue down that path in 2021 as well. Though several hints have been dropped it is still unclear what shape the US’ foreign policy will take under the Biden administration. The President-Elect has vowed to restore an Obama-era nuclear deal that was scrapped amid escalating tensions between the Trump administration and Iran. The moves in Afghanistan need to be closely watched.
