BELIEVES BEHIND THE NAMES OF THIS PLACES
Ardhkuwari Mandir:
located on the way to Vaishno Devi Temple, is named so because of its unique association with the goddess Vaishno Devi.
The name "Ardhkuwari" is derived from two Hindi words:
- "Ardh" meaning "half"
- "Kuwari" meaning "unmarried girl" or "virgin"
According to legend, when Goddess Vaishno Devi was on her way to the Trikuta Mountains, she stopped at this place to meditate and pray. It is said that she spent nine months here, which is half (ardh) of the usual gestation period.
Since the goddess was still a kumari (unmarried girl) at that time, the place came to be known as Ardhkuwari. This mandir is considered a sacred spot, symbolizing the goddess's spiritual journey and her devotion to Lord Vishnu.
Bhairav Nath:
Bhairav Nath is a significant figure in the mythology surrounding the Vaishno Devi Temple. He is considered a devout follower and companion of Goddess Vaishno Devi.
According to legend, Bhairav Nath was a tantric sage who lived in the Trikuta Mountains. He was a devotee of Goddess Vaishno Devi and sought to attain spiritual enlightenment through her blessings.
As the story goes, Bhairav Nath was instructed by the goddess to meditate and seek spiritual growth. However, he became arrogant and began to consider himself equal to the goddess.
Goddess Vaishno Devi, to test his devotion and humility, beheaded Bhairav Nath. Later, she forgave him and restored his life, but not before he had realized his mistake and sought forgiveness.
Since then, Bhairav Nath has been considered a devout follower of the goddess, and his temple is located near the Vaishno Devi Temple. Devotees often visit the Bhairav Nath Temple after completing their pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi.
