The Sun unleashed according to NASA an "M-2" (medium-sized) solar flare" with a massive / spectacular coronal mass ejection "CME" on June 7, 2011.
Simply put..the Sun has been sleeping for years...a very docile star with very little activity..until it's re-awakening recently (past year).
This Earth-directed "CME" is seen moving at 1400 km/s according to NASA models.
Also according to NASA: "The effects on Earth should be fairly small" due to it's angle.
Only time will show what the effects are that may occur.
I have watched the Sun for several years and I do know for a fact how calm it has been..This is a shocking taste of what our Sun can do...though it is certainly not the most powerful that it can eject.
