A little clip about nettle stings from my nettle ice cream video on YT!
The genus name is Urtica for a very good reason. Nettle stings cause urticaria, hives or itchy welts. They also cause paresthesia, tingling.
I've handled a lot of nettles, so I've become used to the stings. Additionally, the common species here in Colorado and other weather states, Utica gracilis, has less stingers than the species found in the Midwest and East.
If you're uncertain of how nettles affect you, or know that you're sensitive, just wear gloves to harvest and handle them until the stingers have been neutralized by heat or pulverizing.
