Genetic diversity is key to coral reef restoration. In addition to scaling up the number of corals grown in our nurseries through fragmentation, one of Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire’s primary goals is to outplant genetically unique corals back to the reef. Our larval propagation program, in partnership with SECORE International, harnesses the power of sexual reproduction to bolster the resilience of coral populations on Bonaire and ensure they are better able to withstand growing threats to the reef!
This BEST 2.0+ project has received funding from the European Union.

About RRFB:
Since 2012, Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire has been dedicated to restoring Bonaire’s coral reefs through innovative coral nurseries and restoration techniques. Guided by our key priorities, we continue to restore key coral species, educate people from around the world, and use the latest research to guide and shape our techniques. Our project began with just two small nurseries, a few corals, and the support of the Bonaire government and STINAPA Bonaire. Today, with the help of 11 partner diveshops around the island and a dedicated team of volunteers, Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire has outplanted over 47,000 corals back to the reef.
