Simplimatic Automation has partnered with the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM) to develop an autonomous mobile robot (AMR) solution for part transfers. This system features a Universal Robots model UR-5 6-axis robot arm with Robotic Vision Technologies (RVT) integrated vision guidance. CCAM has provided their Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) model MiR200, their Universal Robot model UR-5 robot arm, and RVT’s Collaborative Vision Factory (cVF) software. Simplimatic Automation has used their experience in AMR systems to design this fully collaborative AMR system that is made to be easily programmable for the end users. This platform is easily customizable for different part and plant applications with minimal redesign needed.
This AMR system will self-navigate to a pickup location, detect the part, pick the part, and place safely on-board in holding locations. It will then dock the robot arm, and drive itself to the drop-off point. It will pick the part from the on-board buffer and use vision guidance to place the part. The AMR system is easily configurable to perform any desired combination of pick and place travel routes. When battery is low or the AMR is idle, it will dock itself to the MiRCharge™ charging station and automatically charge until called for the next job. When fully charged, this AMR system can operate for hours without needing to charge, but will top off the charge when idle.
The AMR system constantly monitors the surrounding area for personnel and objects at foot height and waist height. When this safety zone is encroached, the robot arm is safe stopped. When clear, the robot arm continues operation where it left off. The MiR AMR also monitors the safety scan area and will safe stop if personnel come too close. The AMR also has 3D cameras monitoring for objects from foot height to head height in the direction of travel, and will automatically reroute itself around obstacles. The MiR AMR, UR-5 robot arm, and Schuck gripper are all certified “collaborative” systems, meaning they meet standards of safety required to operate safely alongside people. Simplimatic Automation has experience with designing and testing against ANSI B56.5, SEMI S2/S17, UL3100, and CE Mark requirements for autonomous vehicles.
This collaborative AMR system can also be provided as a fleet of many automatic vehicles. Easy integration and management of the vehicles is supported by MiR’s MiRFleet™ fleet control software. As needed for factory communication and logistical handling, Simplimatic Automation can provide customers with a middleware software called “Simplimatic Frontend” to meet custom factory integration needs.
Vehicles or fleets of vehicles can be purchased from Simplimatic Automation with custom design and programming specific to the end users needs.
