Well, you can see how my assumption that there was nothing to that little "pocket" turned out... This whole mining district was like that. Lots of little adits and mine shafts that seemed to interconnect at one time and held the promise of leading to something grand and glorious. Unfortunately, many of the most promising options ended up being caved or inaccessible for one reason or another. In fact, neither of our two main targets in this area worked out. The mine (or at least the area of a mine) featured in this video was just incidental to our trip. Of course, that's how a lot of great mines we've stumbled across were discovered.
It was pretty wild to me that we ended up on the other side of the mountain from making our way through the workings in this abandoned mine. A lot of the work seemed exploratory - as if the miners were just meandering around underground in hope of hitting a rich vein or pocket... The smaller sections that I had to crawl through would never have worked if those sections of the mine had been in actual production. They certainly put a lot of time and work into it their exploring though!
In case someone missed it on the last video, this was a gold, silver and lead mine. The ore at this site was discovered in the late 1800s and the early efforts consisted mostly of surface work and some minor underground work (none of which exceeded one hundred feet in depth). The serious work at this abandoned mine took place in the 1920s.

Several kind viewers have asked about donating to help cover some of the many expenses associated with exploring these abandoned mines. Inspired by their generosity, I set up a Patreon account. So, if anyone would care to chip in, I’m under TVR Exploring on Patreon.
Thanks for watching!

Growing up in California’s “Gold Rush Country” made it easy to take all of the history around us for granted. However, abandoned mine sites have a lot working against them – nature, vandals, scrappers and various government agencies… The old prospectors and miners that used to roam our lonely mountains and toil away deep underground are disappearing quickly as well.
These losses finally caught our attention and we felt compelled to make an effort to document as many of the ghost towns and abandoned mines that we could before that colorful niche of our history is gone forever.
I hope you’ll join us on these adventures!
