A container containing over 10 million sticks of contraband cigarettes has been seized by the Customs Department.

Penang Customs Department director Datuk Abdul Halim Ramli said the container was detected at the North Port, Port Klang in Selangor about 1.10pm on Aug 1.

He said the import manifest for the container was declared as canned mushrooms.

The cigarettes are worth RM816,800 with RM6.54 million in unpaid taxes.

He told newsmen at the state Customs enforcement store in Bagan Jermal here today.
