The Supreme Court’s landmark ruling determined that ultra-Orthodox men must serve in the army poses numerous challenges for the IDF.
First, it must adjust its evaluation methods while recruiting based solely on Israel’s security needs.
Second, it must create special frameworks allowing the ultra-Orthodox to maintain their religious identity while performing meaningful service.
It must do all this without sacrificing the equal rights of others who are serving, including women, non-Jews, and others.
