Today I got to do track and field with my CFL Dreamplex friends. I participated in a track & field clinic specifically designed for adaptive athletes with physical disabilities. International, national and collegiate athlete level coaches and athletes joined in to share their knowledge, skills and love of the sport with participants. I got to meet and learn alongside Daniel Romanchuk and others who helped with today's event.
This is the 3rd time I've tried a track & field/racing wheelchair. In previous attempts, it was tough for me to try the chairs for long because they weren't a good size – but today, Daniel's mother along with other volunteers and Daniel all worked together to help me have a memorable day. Because I've had 2 tethered cord surgeries before, my back can hurt more. They said it takes a lot of time to get the right fit and for kids to learn how to use these chairs. I was able to last so much longer today but it was hard. After close to an hour and half they finally gave me a bit of a break. After everyone was finished – I got to work with Daniel a little more on how to use the chair and began to take off towards the end. I'm excited more people are interested in helping to grow the sport in Florida.
