Second alarm fire on East Shelby road
Seven fire companies from Genesee and Orleans County responded to second alarm barn fire at 3039 East Shelby road a little before 1:00 this afternoon.
When Oakfield Fire 1st Assistant Chief Chad Williams arrived on scene, flames were coming from the front door of a metal frame barn and were in close proximity to a trailer home.
The flames were so intense there was damage to the exterior of the nearby trailer home. The siding was melted as a result.
Several people called 9-1-1 after spotting the thick black smoke in the area.
The residents of the trailer home were home at the time.
A family of two adults and two children are currently being assisted by the Red Cross.
Assistant Chief Williams says the metal barn structure is a total loss. The barn contained tools, an air compressor and a small lawn mower.
The family dog also had a fenced in pen area attached to the barn, but he was let out and was wandering the woods.
No one was injured in the blaze and code enforcement has been called to the scene.
Fire companies from Barre, East Shelby, Alabama, Elba, City of Batavia and the Town of Batavia all responded.
Oakfield Fire is investigating the cause of the fire.
