Intense fighting between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Hamas has escalated amid a hostage deal in Gaza. Hamas intensified attacks using improvised explosive devices (IEDs), with the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades claiming responsibility for hitting two Merkava tanks and targeting IDF positions with IEDs and a "Shawaz" bomb at the Siftawi junction in Jabalia. Casualties have mounted for the IDF, with two soldiers killed and two others seriously injured in Beit Hanoun. Among the dead was Captain Eitan Israel Shiknazi. Meanwhile, the IDF is investigating an attack on a UN aid convoy, despite prior clearance.
