Building a custom superyacht like Galactica Star is a long and immensely complex process that involved a multitude of technical skills. Coordinating the work of the various in-house departments and outside consultants is also an exercise in logistics to ensure the project proceeds in a timely manner. Heesen relies on its own workforce to engineer, assemble and weld all its alluminium hulls. Galactica Star took less than 30 months to complete following the lane of the keel in early February 2011 – well within the norm for a yacht of her size. But the designs and development process began at least 18 months earlier in June 2009.
